Yay! I never have to have a mammogram ever again, despite being over 50 and female!

Why? I had a bilateral mastectomy, followed by a course of chemo, followed currently by 5 years of hormonal treatment, and have a better than 90% chance that my Stage II breast cancer, detected by mammogram, will not recur. Note that neither the oncologist nor surgeon could palpate the tumors.

And I don't have to wear bras either! Win!

Sorry to have scared you, but if you're over 50, the science is pretty good that having the damn mammogram once every couple years is worthwhile. My previous one had been clear.

I had no "lifestyle" or other risk factors. That diagnosis was the biggest shock of my life, but after six months of hell, I should have my life expectancy back. Worth it, my family agrees. And my spouse still likes me without breasts.
